  3. Good Day to the AQTN team,

How do I access these logos from this week’s marketing tips? Thanks for all the tips !!!

    Best Regards

  4. In response to the [ Door to door and windshield marketing ] tip:

One thing I can bring from my previous experience when I recently attended a 12 week workshop from a career transition center is teaching others to put their “Elevator speech” together.

This is equivalent and similar to the pitch described in the marketing tips. One suggestion not noted is that the length must be three minutes maximum. Any longer reduces value instead of adding to it.

I also attended a few ToastMaster meetings and learned that there are at least 10 different “3 minute speech types” depending on where you are and who you are speaking to. For example, Ice Breakers, to how to say it, Your body speaks, to Persuade with Power….to give only you a few examples…

Toastmaster meeting are a great way to gain experience in public speaking.

  5. Great job !!!

I wanted to share that I just did my pitch over the phone when I was asked “what do I go for a living?” because I’d mentioned I was self-employed.

Good thing I had my phone / elevator pitch ready, I’ve never really been asked type of question before !! :-))

  6. Good one indeed!

As ex-president of a BNI group in Quebec, each week we had do to a 1 minute pitch and come up with a new ‘catch phrase’ each time too, that would capture the essence of why someone would want to use our services.

Every 2 months or so, we had to present a 10 – 20 minute talk on what made us unique in our field and how clients could benefit from using our service vs someone else – who offered a similar service – it was like a boot camp for marketing services…as well as public speaking training.

    Good tip!

  7. Thanks for these wonderful tips and newsletters!

Do you also offer business and marketing courses?

    (answer: not at this time)

  8. In response to this marketing tip: Learning styles – the theory

This theory postulates that people have different preferred methods of learning. We all perceive information using our senses. The three most practical senses in learning environments are sight, hearing and touch:

    – Visual
    – Auditory
    – Kinesthetic

If you can identify which one your client is, you should approach them using that method. It helps build a rapport more quickly.

    One member wrote back:

There’s a simple test to determine this: ask a question out of blue eg – what did you eat for dinner last night – and watch where they look. If they look up they are visual; down they are auditory (closing off stimuli) and if they look to the side kinaesthetic – side up for example is kinaesthetic plus visual.

  10. Excellent advice in this marketing tip ‘Insurance receipts are a doubled-edged sword’.
I hope you are enjoying your summer.

  11. About the “Don’t talk negatively” marketing tips, I agree completely, although sometimes it is awfully hard!!

The tip goes (and applies equally to associations talking about other associations):

    Don’t talk negatively about others.

It is fine to be critical about a specific action or comment – but you are disagreeing with the actions not the person.

Again, don’t talk negatively about others, even if they deserve it. It is bad karma.

  12. We teach in Helping Relations that it is not ethical for massage therapists to sell promotional items and/or vitamins and supplements. Due to power imbalance acquired from the therapeutic nature of our work, clients may feel obliged to purchase these items.

In response to marketing tip summarized: You can pretty much upsell anything. The key is having the product available; either in a catalog to order or in your work space.

Feedback: What is being sold and how it’s done are important, and ethical considerations are warranted, especially when the client is being treated for something that puts them in a vulnerable position or state. But for someone who works 9-5 and is seeking a therapeutic massage for lower back pain, in this case that same level of vulnerability is not present.

The size of your clinic also plays a role, including the way your waiting area is setup if there is a waiting area.

A note on vitamins, it is clearly not a core skill set for a massage therapist. Many long-term scientific studies on vitamins show little or no clinical benefit, and actually in some cases it shortens the life span (Mayo Clinic, to cite once source, among countless others). Of course there are periods in life when vitamins and supplements are important (pregnancy comes to mind with folic acid).

  13. From the tip with the Subject: [ *** Back-up *** ]

    so true 🙁

    Thanks!

  14. Bonjour !

  16. Excellent advice on the tip with the subject: [ Income taxes made easy ]

    Thank you!

  17. FEEDBACK: Great tip – except how do we tell a reputable clinic – hey my guy wants Iron Maiden in our room ???

TIP ITSELF : Let clients bring their own music. Have a way to hook up an iPod or MP3 into your stereo. There are clients who enjoy heavy metal or Blues or Jazz– rain or meditation music is not for everyone.

SUGGESTION: A reputable clinic, referring to a large one, will be able to make the decision and implement this if they wish to. It’s easy if each room has an independent audio source. For a sole proprietor, the decision resides with the owner.

It is very easy to program 45 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes of Iron maiden, or any other known group, YouTube is great for this.
